Services – Design Verification
Colin Mongta Inspection Services Pty Ltd provide a design verification service complying with the requirements of AS3920 (Assurance of product quality) Part 1: (Pressure equipment manufacture) for the following design codes: AS1210, AS1228, EN5500, ASME Section 1 and VIII Div 1 & 2, New Zealand Code of Practice.

Schedule 2 PART 1—PLANT REQUIRING REGISTRATION OF DESIGN Pressure equipment, other than pressure piping. ie: Boiler or pressure vessel of Hazard Level – A, B, C or D, as determined by AS4343.
AS3920.1 Clause 4.5 DESIGN VERIFYING BODY 4.5.1 Requirements The design verifying body shall be either a regulatory authority or a body acceptable to the authority. If the body is other than the regulatory authority, it shall comply with the following requirements:
- Be competent with all necessary facilities, organizations and staff to undertake competent verification of the particular design.
- Employ external design verifiers who—
- hold a degree or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline plus at least two years relevant experience in the design or design review of pressure equipment;
- hold a certificate or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline plus at least four years relevant experience in the design or design review of pressure equipment; or
- Have other qualifications or experience acceptable to a certifying body.
- Comply with the requirements equivalent to the requirements for the acceptance of Inspection bodies in SAA HB18.39 (ISO/IEC Guide 39).
- Have a quality system complying with SAA HB18.39 (or AS/NZS ISO 9001 or AS/NZS ISO 9002) and this Standard; and certified by a certifying body.
- Have no involvement in the design other than for verification.
- Be an organization other than that of the designer, manufacturer, purchaser, owner, supplier, importer, or user.
AS3920.1 Clause 4.4 EXTENT OF DESIGN VERIFICATION The following aspects of the design shall be verified:
- Materials.
- Adequacy of all pressure parts, considering all service conditions specified in the relevant Standard or purchaser’s specification or both.
- Supports where applicable.
- Manufacture and testing requirements.
- Specifications for flanges, valves and fittings (if such components are provided with the pressure equipment).
- Any other aspects of the design which, in the opinion of the external design verifier, are essential for verification in accordance with Clause 4.3.
